Dear Friends,

We continue to be grateful for all of your prayers and support through the past three weeks of Jack's illness and hopeful recovery. Here is the latest update:

Jack had a brain biopsy yesterday, Wednesday morning, May 30. The procedure went very well with no complications. He has an incision about an inch long right above his right ear. Our neurosurgeon took tissue from both the surface of Jack's brain, and some deeper brain tissue, as well as fluid for testing. Jack came out of the anesthesia easily, and ate a full meal around 4:30 that afternoon.

The rest of the night proved to be rather difficult. Jack suffered an incredible amount of pain and swelling from the surgery, and he was given two doses of morphine throughout the night in order to sleep comfortably.

This morning (Thursday) he has only needed one dose of Tylenol to control pain, and he is again eating very well. We have been released from the ICU to a regular room, and are hoping to go home Friday. It will take about a week to hear any results from the biopsy, and our neurologist sees no reason why we can't go home for the time being (as long as our neurosurgeon is in agreement).

We are in the process of discharge planning with our case manager. Though it will be a big step to return home, we are very excited to be in our own space where Jack can sleep in his own bed, and our puppies can kiss him to their heart's content. There will be much to do once we get home. Jack is already scheduled for occupational and physical therapy, each twice a week. And as of tomorrow, his anti-seizure medications will be ready for us to pick up at our local pharmacy.

There is much going on, and many of you know by now that Anthony's father, Jack, has also been hospitalized the past few days. He is in the end stages of Parkinson's Disease, and is primarily being cared for by my mother-in-law, Katy. Anthony's siblings have flown into town, and together we are trying to keep Dad as comfortable as possible. He is being released from the hospital today.

We will keep you updated as to our son's diagnosis and Anthony's father's condition. Thank you for your continued love and prayers.

Katherine and Anthony
