Dear Loved Ones, I'm sorry it's been so long since we've posted an update - I know many of you have been asking about Jack's health and recent hospitalization. We're happy to say that Jack came home last Friday afternoon after a bout with what we think was Bronchiolitis. We believe he developed it while Anthony and I were struggling with the flu. In any case, hospitalization was not absolutely necessary since he did not have pneumonia. But because Jack wasn't eating or taking his medication, we were fearful of possible dehydration and Jack's seizures getting out of control. Now at home, Jack still has quite a cough, but the worst of the virus is over, and Jack is improving each day. He is, for the most part, a very happy boy! I, however, am not doing as well. Tuesday morning we learned the results of my genetic testing, that I am a positive carrier for Menkes Disease. This means that Jack did not develop Menkes from a random genetic mutation. I passed the gene to him. Though we have not yet talked with the geneticist at PCH, we have decided not to have any more biological children. The risk is too great, with a 50% chance of another male child having the disease. On a lighter note, it seems almost unbelievable that Halloween is already here. Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and we are indeed thankful that Jack is with us. He is our biggest blessing, and we are doing our best to enjoy every second we have with him. As always, thanks for checking in on us.
With love,
